Hello everyone,
My name is Cian Holden. I am 22 years old. I was born in Kilkenny city and currently live in Waterford city for my studies. I am an undergraduate student at SETU Waterford, Ireland. I am currently studying Bachelor of Business Year 4 where I am specialising in Marketing. For my first 3 years of University I studied International Business with Spanish. After my Erasmus year in Year 3 I transferred course to Bachelor of Business. I have been really enjoying my new course thus far and have strong aspirations to graduate with a degree.
My highlight of my 4 years in University was my Erasmus year abroad. The new experience of moving to a different country (Spain), learning their culture, sightseeing, attending a foreign University and making new friends was great. I believe Erasmus is a great opportunity for students to mature and learn about themselves and I strongly recommend all students to participate if possible.
I am currently working part time as a Night Porter in Dooley's Hotel in Waterford city. I enjoy working here, it has a very good environment with great staff, management and customers. Lately I have been considering switching departments within the hotel for more suitable work hours or looking for a new workplace with more relation to Business. This is a decision I will make in the near future.
Relating my workplace to the Digital Economy introduction, the hotel uses several information systems. Some examples of information systems used include HotSoft, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and booking.com. These systems are primarily used to store data/information about residents staying in the hotel, store automated emails and general information, balance cash registers and plan numbers for public/private events and transfer data along with prices for trips to the hotel. I used these information systems regularly throughout each shift.
Let me know in the comments below the university you are studying in and/or your workplace. I would love to hear more about you!
That's all for me in this blog post. Thanks for reading! Keep an eye out for many more blogs in the future where I will cover content based on several different aspects of 'Digital Economy'.
